Dr Jane Collins graduated Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1989, and completed her residency at the Royal Brisbane and Prince Charles Hospitals.

Dr Collins then transferred to the Australian Regular Army and was posted, as Captain Medical Officer to the 11th Field Ambulance, as the first female medical officer to be appointed to a combat-related role. From this appointment, she was seconded to Iraq in 1991, as part of the Allied Operation Habitat to provide humanitarian support to Kurdish Refugees after the first Gulf War. She was awarded the Australian Service Medal for her work on this deployment. After completing postings to field units in Townsville and Brisbane, she was promoted to Major in 1994, working at the 1st Military Hospital in Brisbane, then transferring to the Army Reserve as a part-time instructor at the School of Army Health in Portsea, Victoria.

On locating to the Mornington Peninsula, Dr. Collins additionally worked in General Practice. In 1996, she established Beachside Family Medical Centre and Women’s Health Clinic, providing both general practice and women’s health services. In 2001, Dr Collins returned to Brisbane, and with her business partner, established Logan Central Medical Centre and Grand Plaza Medical Centre on Brisbane’s south-side. In 2012, she moved permanently to Holland Park General Practice,  with special interests in paediatrics, women’s health (including perinatal care) and mental health.

Dr Collins has achieved her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (1996), a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (Nutritional and Environmental Medicine) (2003) and a Diploma in Child Health (2005). She is currently completing a Masters in Counselling with Torrens University. She maintains professional currency and is concurrently aligned with the Mater Mothers Hospital in Brisbane to provide antenatal Shared Care.

Jane resides in South Brisbane and is mother to Stephanie, now eighteen. Her pasttimes include live theatre and music, planning elaborate dinner parties, keeping active with gym training and boxing, and she is an avid sports watcher and participant. Jane also remains committed to the welfare of service Veterans in her personal and professional life.
