Supporting You Through a Workplace Injury Claim

WorkCover Queensland is the state's government-owned workers' compensation insurer, established under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. If you've been injured at work or developed an illness as a result of your employment, you are entitled to make a claim — covering medical costs, rehabilitation, and lost wages during your recovery.

At Kangaroo Point Medical Centre, our GPs are experienced in managing WorkCover claims end-to-end. We understand the documentation, certification, and reporting requirements needed to support your claim and get you the treatment you need as quickly as possible.

  • WorkCover medical certificates — initial, progress & final
  • Comprehensive workplace injury assessments
  • Ongoing treatment & injury management
  • Specialist referrals within the WorkCover system
  • Mental health support for work-related psychological injury
  • Return-to-work planning & graduated duties support

Important: After a workplace injury, see a doctor as soon as possible. Your GP issues the WorkCover medical certificate needed to start your claim. Delays in seeking treatment can affect your entitlements.

WorkCover Medical Certificates

We issue official initial, progress, and final WorkCover medical certificates — the essential documents required to open and maintain your Queensland workers' compensation claim.

Initial Injury Assessment

Our GPs conduct a thorough assessment of your workplace injury — documenting its nature, severity, and functional impact to form the foundation of a successful claim.

Ongoing Injury Management

Regular review appointments to monitor your recovery, update your WorkCover certificate, and adjust your treatment plan — communicating with WorkCover Queensland and your insurer as required.

Return-to-Work Planning

We collaborate with you and your employer to develop a safe, realistic return-to-work plan — including graduated duties where appropriate — to support your recovery and livelihood.

Specialist Referrals

Where your injury requires specialist input — physiotherapy, orthopaedics, psychology, or pain management — we coordinate referrals within the WorkCover system.

Mental Health Support

Workplace injuries don't only affect the body. We assess and manage psychological impacts — anxiety, depression, and PTSD — all of which can be covered under WorkCover Queensland.

Common Questions

WorkCover FAQs

Answers to the most common WorkCover Queensland questions we receive from patients.

Ensure you are safe and receive first aid if required. Notify your employer as soon as possible — this is a legal requirement in Queensland. Book a GP appointment promptly; we can often see WorkCover patients on the same day. Your GP will assess your injury and issue a WorkCover medical certificate, which is required to lodge your claim with WorkCover Queensland.
Yes. A WorkCover medical certificate (also called a work capacity certificate) is essential for lodging and maintaining a WorkCover claim in Queensland. It details the nature of your injury, your capacity for work, and the treatment you need. Our GPs issue initial, progress and final certificates throughout your recovery.
Once your claim is accepted by WorkCover Queensland, reasonable and necessary medical treatment costs — including GP consultations — are covered and billed directly to WorkCover. At your first appointment, before formal claim acceptance, standard consultation fees may apply. Please call us to discuss your specific situation.
Yes. Under Queensland workers' compensation legislation you have the right to choose your own treating doctor. You are not obligated to see your employer's preferred GP. Kangaroo Point Medical Centre is a registered WorkCover provider and you are welcome to transfer your care to our clinic at any point during your claim.
WorkCover Queensland aims to decide on standard claims within 20 business days of receiving all required information. Complete and accurate medical documentation — which we prioritise at every appointment — helps avoid delays. We work with you throughout the process to ensure all paperwork is submitted promptly.
